We are very pleased to have Gary Crockett back at Mountaingrass this year. He is going to be busy!

He is presenting  Far From Home -  songs of Antebellum and civil war America, colonial Sydney and today.

This curated set of old -time banjo tunes unlocks stories of people and worlds upended by slavery, migration, war and transportation, from colonial Sydney and antebellum America to civil war battlefields and beyond.

He will also be  hosting the 'Bright Sessions' at the Bright Courthouse, a curated concert with other old-time players including: old time legends Rod and Judy Jones with Lindsay Mar as the My-T-Fine Trio, John Boothroyd, and a bunch of rising old-time stars who will revisit the folk songs, anthems and popular tunes of 19th Century America and beyond.

And, on top of all that,  he will be presenting his Clawhammer Banjo workshop where you will learn (and sing) an early version of ‘The Boatman’s Dance’, a cheerful show tune first performed on a Sydney stage in April 1850 that carries a far from happy history.
