ABOTMA is very please to announce that the legendary Laurie Lewis and the Right Hands will headline MountainGrass 2015. International Bluegrass Music Association executive director Dan Hays calls Laurie “one of the preeminent bluegrass and Americana artists of our time.” Acclaimed musician Sam Bush puts it more simply, calling her “a great singer, terrific fiddle player, fine songwriter, and one very good band leader.” She is an inspirational artist and a renown outdoorswoman. We look forward to showing her the beauty of our antipodean alpine home!
It is with equal pleasure that we announce our Old-Timey headline act: the Orpheus Supertones. Six-time prize winners in the prestigious traditional string band competition at the Appalachian String Band Festival, each member of the Orpheus Supertones is a spectacular musician and tradition-bearer. Together, they are even greater than the parts: twin fiddles, banjo, guitar and bass plus great vocal harmonies to rock your world. They are loved by audiences and dancers for their entertaining stage show, foot-stomping music, and ability to have a contagious good time. Each band member is a seasoned teacher, offering workshops in old-time fiddle, banjo, guitar, upright bass, singing, vocal harmony styles, fiddle/banjo duets, band arrangements and the work of particular old-time sources (e.g., Carter Family, Charlie Poole, Ed Haley, Skillet Lickers).
Chris Henry and Kyle Tuttle, supported by One Up, Two Down
Chris Henry is making his second appearance at MountainGrass this year accompanied by banjo player Kyle Tuttle. Chris Henry is often cited as the best Bill Monroe style bluegrass mandolinist playing today. Chris and Kyle will be supported by the outstanding and award winning musicians One Up, Two Down, consisting of George Jackson on fiddle, Daniel Watkins on guitar and Andrew Small on bass.
Thanks to the support of the Harrietville business community and Alpine Shire Council, Regional Development Victoria, and the community of Harrietville for their support.
2015/16 Memberships for ABOTMA will be on sale in July 2105.
